bpc-157

Fifteen years of striking rodent results and not one completed published human trial. Both halves of that sentence matter.

what it is

BPC-157 is a fifteen-amino-acid sequence derived from a protein found in human gastric juice. It does not appear to exist as a discrete peptide in the body — it is a fragment that was synthesised and studied on its own. The proposed mechanisms centre on angiogenesis and growth factor signalling, particularly VEGF pathways.

what the evidence shows

The animal literature is extensive and genuinely interesting: accelerated healing of tendon, ligament, muscle and gut injury across many rodent models, much of it from a small number of research groups. What does not exist is a completed, published, randomised human trial for any indication. That absence, after this much time and this much commercial interest, is itself informative.

Fifteen years of striking rodent results and not one completed published human trial.

what stays uncertain

Whether any of it transfers. Rodent healing rates, dose scaling, and injury models translate to humans unreliably at the best of times. The FDA placed BPC-157 in Category 2 in 2023, and WADA added it to the prohibited list as a non-approved substance, meaning it is banned in competitive sport at all times.

the practical note

The honest position is that this is an interesting preclinical compound with a large and enthusiastic user base operating entirely ahead of the evidence. Anyone telling you the human data is solid has not looked for it.

BPC-157 is not approved for human use in any jurisdiction and is prohibited in competitive sport. Nothing here should be read as encouragement to obtain or use it.
